DISPATCH ID: #5A41AG43GG48T9-3
- DATE OF ENTRY: TWO-HUNDRED AND FIFTH ROTATION OF THE STAR OF MEIRAN -
— LOG OF DISPATCH: —
I’m extremely happy! Eiri was told where I was dispatched to, and she came to the library today while I was working! I got to see her for the first time in 98 rotations of MEIRAN! It was such a surprise to see that she got dispatched as well. I was beginning to lose hope that she’d be chosen.. But I knew that she could do it!
I’m aware that most active staff members are rarely aware of the identities of each other, except those in charge of administration. I suppose you took pity on us, Chief Communicator Gogo? Thank you.
That does make me wonder about who else is currently an active staff member, though.
Either way, it felt like a weight was taken off of my shoulders when we finally saw each other again. We had fun talking about all of the things that I had learnt while she was away, and about her dispatch location and responsibilities. It was her first day at her new “university” today right here in Seattle, so when I explained to her what “university” meant before she had told me this, she looked at me like I had said that the sky was blue... I was so excited to see her shocked about “university”, but it’s fine. I suppose..
Her main job for TOURAI is to archive public documents for analysis, like me, but she instead locates these things on the “computer,” rather than a physical document. It’s a good choice for her. But I seem to have been the only staff member who didn’t know what a computer was!
Oh, one thing that I should inform you about is that she seemingly managed to lose her logging device as soon as she landed on Earth! She was wearing it as a hairpin, and when she left university and came to see me, on the way she realized that it wasn’t on her head anymore! So in the meantime, we’ll have to compromise and Eiri will use my logging device instead to send her logs. Hopefully we can go to Lala’s dispatch location soon and get a replacement, but I’m not sure if any supplies have been sent down as of late.. If not, please send a supply of them to Lala and let her know that we’ll be coming soon. We’re both sorry for the inconvenience!
Hmm.. My logging device is in my drawer right now, I think..
Anyhow, Eiri’s made lots of new friends, and she’s learning so many new things! She told me that she even had lunch with someone today. You’ll never guess who it was! It was San! I was apprehensive as to if it was the same San that I spoke to a little while ago, but she described him and he sounded exactly the same as the San I knew as well! Eiri told me that she can invite him to come to the library with her to see me, so I’m quite excited about that. San was very kind. But most of all, I’m glad that Eiri has a friend. It's hard to find your way around a new place, let alone an entirely new planet.. I’ve been here for a while, and it feels like I’ve barely settled in. I’m not sure if I’ll ever feel like I have. But Eiri sounds like she’s having a lot of fun. I’m so glad that she got to come here.
Ever since the day that we were both created, I suppose that I’ve seen her as a kind of “sibling.” We have no concept of this at TOURAI, since we have no families, and we are all produced without intercourse. But since observing the way that humans interact with each other, I think.. To me, at least, we are sort of like “siblings.” We’ve only had each other since the day that we were created. Every day was hard, and gaining the strength to push on and achieve our dream was excruciating. But Eiri gave me the constant encouragement to keep myself from falling into despair.. It had been very lonely without her here with me. I care about her very much.. And I’m happy that we’re both here. But don’t tell her that I said that!
Oh, I heard from her that she’s also presenting as a woman as well now. At TOURAI, we have no concept of “gender,” so we have no need for these indicators, but Chairman Yuufoo said that it’d “facilitate our integration into human interactions and relationships,” so we all have to choose one, I suppose. I asked Eiri why she chose to be a woman, and she told me that she had read archived human magazines about women wearing cute clothes back at TOURAI, and she had always wanted to wear cute clothes as well. I’m glad that she’s not uncomfortable in the role. I certainly am.. I have no reason to care about either, so I simply chose to present as a woman randomly! But I doubt I’ll ever truly feel comfortable being called a woman or a man. It is simply a role, so I shouldn’t complain.. And Eiri certainly isn’t! She even asked me to refer to her as a woman even if we aren’t around humans. I’m relieved that she’s settling in without worry. Hm.. So, that would make us “sisters!”
Honestly, I found it difficult to recognize her at first! Her form was completely different. One of the things that I found surprising when I first learnt of the existence of humans is that they're tethered to one singular appearance, and they can't manipulate their own body mass as drastically and quickly as we do to suit their needs without outside intervention. For us, we are given a specific amount of energy when we are born, and we are free to use it to manipulate our body mass as much as we like while we are rejuvinating inside of TOURAI. Once we come out of rejuvination, we are stuck with our chosen body until the current cycle finishes and we must rejuvinate again. That reminds me of the time when Eiri thought that it'd be funny to put her eyes on the top of her head for an entire cycle.. It exasperates me just thinking about it. Before you met me at TIS, Chief Communicator Gogo, you might find it hard to believe that I was a lot taller. You can't really picture it, can you? Haha! Well, I'm grateful for being born at TOURAI because of this difference. It seems quite a hindrance to change yourself if you're in need of doing so as a human..
